“Am I the only one?”
When we suffer we can retreat and isolate ourselves from others. Without contact, things get worse and we end up feeling embarrassed and ashamed. “What is wrong with me?” “I’m so stupid, immature, selfish, (fill in the blank).” “I should go live in the woods somewhere.”
Without connection, without a tribe, without a sense of belonging, we can experience:
- Depression
- Shame
- Isolation
- Hopelessness
- Anxiety

Group Therapy FAQ
It depends on the length of sessions, the type of group, and the person leading the group. Most of our groups range from $40-$70 per 90-minute meeting.
Usually groups meet for 90-minutes every-other week. Sometimes they meet more frequently. And sometimes sessions may be two hours long.
No. You get to control your level of involvement. We’re all different. Sometimes we talk in order to get comfortable, sometimes we need some time to warm up. There is no right way to be. The more you involve yourself, however, the more you will get out of group.
Yes! Each group member makes a commitment that what happens in group stays in group. You can always talk about your own work, what you said and did in group. But nobody has permission to share your experience. There are of course a few limits to confidentiality for the therapist which include things like child and elder abuse, and being a risk of harm to self and others. Your group therapist will go through these limitations very clearly before you ever start group.
You’re not alone! And you will never be required to do that. Over time you will become more comfortable with the group. You’ll feel more connected and safe with the other group members, and may find it easier to open up. But, part of the power of group is that you can do that on your own terms.
An important question. See the section for benefits of group therapy versus individual therapy. I recommend both! In fact, most of the men in my men’s group also come to me for individual therapy. It’s a very powerful combination.
